A great piece of architecture...

St Peters Basilica Italy

Michelangelo held the position of chief architect of St. Peter's Basilica for 17 years. Here he ensured the timely and cost-effective completion of the project. It is fair to say that Michelangelo's greatest achievement for St. Peter's Basilica was the dome standing at a total height of 136.57 metres - recorded as the tallest dome in the world. Being fortunate enough myself to witness the majestic and elegantly crafted dome that now dominates Rome's skyline I have acquired deep appreciation for this great piece of architecture.
